About Tehachapi
CLIMATE
- Located at the base of the beautiful Sierra Mountains, Tehachapi
is a mountain valley community with a beauty of its own Often referred
to as the Land of Four Seasons, Summers are pleasantly
warm and dry, a beautiful Fall follows, Winter brings light snows,
and Spring offers breathtaking displays of poppies, along with lupines
and many other wild flowers. Summer temperatures average from approximately
58 to 87, occasionally reaching the 90s. Winter temperatures
average from 31 to 53, occasionally reaching below 15. While seldom
quiet, the wind can range from 4 to 17 mph on any given day
quite
a positive for Tehachapis many glider enthusiasts
and
allows the area to maintain wind farm. A glider port and small municipal
airport are available to the public.
CABLE AND SATELLITE SERVICES Both cable and
satellite services are available in the Tehachapi area, including
high speed Internet Access with and without phone line connections.
Nearby Bakersfield-based services are also available toll free.
RECREATION - The Tehachapi Valley
Recreation and Parks District maintains a variety of parks for both
youth and adults. Six recreational facilities are located throughout
the Greater Tehachapi Area, with different areas offering playgrounds,
softball fields, lighted baseball fields, picnic tables, a Gazebo,
pavilion, gymnasium, meeting rooms. Soccer fields and a roller hockey
rink are available for youth.
The Tehachapi communities of Bear Valley and Stallion Springs additionally
offer other leisure time facilities, including golf and country
club facilities, swimming, horseback riding, an equestrian center,
tennis courts, and a shooting range. Presently under development
in Stallion Springs is the Woodward-West Camp for Extreme Sports,
offering all those sports that kids love to do.
LOCAL HAPPENINGS and TOURIST ATTRACTIONS - Take time
to watch trains weaving their way through the Tehachapi Creek watershed
as they follow a continuous curve that winds back over itself. Climbing
3600 feet in 50 track miles between Bakersfield and Tehachapi, the
Tehachapi Pass Rail Line has been in continuous use for over 120
years. Considered an outstanding engineering feat, the Tehachapi
Loop has been honored by the American Society of Civil Engineers
as a National Civil Engineering Historic Landmark
Explore the Heritage Museum,
visit the Errea House, spend an afternoon at Mourning Cloak ranch
and Botanical Garden, or schedule an interpretive tour of the Tomo-Kahni
state Par, a Kawaiisu Native American winter home village. Include
a trip to an ostrich farm, the
Tehachapi-Mojave wind farms, participate in the Tehachapi Mountain
Festival and PRCA Rodeo, or set aside time to attend the unique
yearly two-day Native American Indian Pow Wow.
